Our story

Craft is what we make. Possibility is why.

Shilpgaatha began with designers who shared a passion for Indian handicrafts. Today, that passion connects traditional skills with contemporary life — and the women whose hands carry those skills forward.

01

Indian craft, meant for living.

We believe a handmade object belongs in everyday life. In the basket that gathers small essentials. In the shade that softens a room. In a thoughtful gift that says a little more. Our collection brings inherited skills and considered design into useful pieces for homes, gardens and workspaces.

02

Women at the heart of the work.

Shilpgaatha is women-led and works mostly with women artisans. The journey begins with learning: patient guidance, hands-on training and time to practise. As unfamiliar techniques become skills, confidence grows alongside the craft.

03

From skill to opportunity.

When skills take shape in a finished piece, they can open a path to earning and greater independence. This is the purpose behind our work: creating room for women to imagine new possibilities for themselves and their families, through the work of their hands.

04

Tradition, in conversation with design.

Our craft vocabulary includes natural weaving traditions using water hyacinth, moonj and bamboo, alongside explorations in zari zardozi and beadwork. Each tradition brings its own texture, technique and character. We bring these ideas into a contemporary collection without losing sight of the people behind them.

When a piece finds a place in your home, you become a small part of its continuing story.
